About the Guernsey Development Agency:

We are at the forefront of driving strategic development initiatives that enhance Guernsey’s prosperity and quality of life. Our focus is on fostering innovation, attracting investment, and ensuring the sustainable growth of our key sectors, with a particular emphasis on the East Coast and the burgeoning Blue Water Economy.

The Role:

This is a multi-faceted role that combines board-level strategic oversight with practical, hands-on responsibility for our communications. As a key member of our Board, you will:

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Contribute to the overall strategic direction of the Agency, providing expert counsel on all plans and ensuring robust governance.
    • Shape the Agency’s communications strategy, ensuring it aligns with our overarching vision and engages effectively with key stakeholders, including government, industry, and the public.
    • Advise the Board on public affairs, media relations, and crisis communications, bringing a communications perspective to all board-level discussions.
  • Hands-On Implementation:
    • Take a lead role in the practical delivery of our PR and marketing activities.
    • Develop and implement compelling communication campaigns that promote the Agency’s projects, particularly those related to the East Coast and Blue Water Economy.
    • Actively manage media relations, craft press releases, and build relationships with key journalists and influencers.
    • Create engaging content and compelling narratives that showcase Guernsey’s potential, attract investment, and build public support.
    • Working with marketing agencies but mainly generating internal engaging content and compelling narratives that showcase Guernsey’s potential, attract investment and build public support.
    • Managing social media campaigns and responding to questions posed by the public.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Possesses a proven track record in strategic communications and public relations, with demonstrable experience at both a senior leadership and operational level.
  • Is a “roll-up-your-sleeves” professional, equally comfortable in the boardroom and in the practical execution of marketing and PR campaigns.
  • Has a deep understanding of the Guernsey landscape and a genuine passion for its sustainable economic development.
  • Exhibits outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Is a strategic thinker with the ability to translate high-level goals into actionable, hands-on plans.
  • Ideally, has an understanding of the Blue Water Economy and related sectors.
  • Is committed to the principles of good governance and ethical conduct.

What you will gain:

  • The opportunity to make a tangible and lasting impact on the future of Guernsey.
  • A unique hybrid role that combines strategic leadership with hands-on, creative work.
  • The chance to work alongside a dedicated and passionate team.
  • Valuable experience in high-level governance and strategic development.
  • The satisfaction of directly contributing to the sustainable prosperity of our island.
