After three years of dedicated service, Peter Watson, the chair of the Guernsey Development Agency is resigning at the end of his term.
Peter joined the organisation in 2023, bringing decades of valuable experience in business. In this time, the agency has progressed to develop tangible plans for enhancements in St Sampsons that promise economic revitalisation and vital housing whilst improving the area for the local community and visitors.
Peter said, “I am immensely proud of the work that our team has developed to date for the regeneration of St. Sampsons. The enhancements and economic opportunities they are developing promise vital housing, essential flood defences, and genuine economic revitalisation.
We are lucky to have fantastic marine engineers on the team that together bring firsthand local experience and proven delivery of world class marine engineering projects.
I have enormous confidence in our small but powerful team who are working hard for islanders to deliver change, enhance our coastline, invigorate the economy, give young people hope for housing and show that we can, as an Island, be forward thinking and I hope they are given the necessary support to do so.”
James Ede Golightly, Non-Executive Director of the GDA said, “Peter’s tenacity and passion to enhance our island has been a key reason for the GDA’s successes to date. He has driven forward initial ideas and concepts into a clear vision for St Sampsons which was endorsed by the States of Guernsey. This 25-year long programme is not without challenges, but with adequate governance and support it is achievable. We wish Peter all the best and thank him for his dedicated service”
The GDA has recently submitted a programme of the St Sampsons enhancement works to their political oversight group board which will ensure alignment with the island’s policies and strategies before they can then present the business and funding plan to support these.
The agency is also working on designs for Black Rock since it received direction from the States of Guernsey in 2025 to progress plans for a new inert waste site here.
Peter will be ending his term at the end of August whilst the GDA look to appoint a new Chair.
